Hi all.

I noticed yesterday, when the car was on axle stands that the front wheels hardly spin, when spun by hand.

If I give the wheel a good hard spin, the wheel will only turn a full circle once before stopping.

Is this correct, and if not how do I sort it?

Other than that there are no issues. No smells off over heated linings etc.

I don't want to use what power I have, fighting against the brakes.

(8.4 discs and pads)

I am not sure how many turns would be normal with front brakes.  What you are reporting is what you want on the rear drums.

Keep in mind that even with the gearbox in neutral, spinning a front wheel requires turning parts in the transmission.  With both front wheels off the ground you have to spin the final drive gear and pinion and the gears driving it.  With one wheel still on the ground you have all that to spin plus the gears inside the differential.  In short, I would not expect a front tire to "freewheel" when off the ground.

Yes, I have never had a front wheel (disc or drum) spin freely, due to drivetrain friction, and if the rears did, you would find that the brake pedal had far too much free travel. Drum brakes should have just a trace of residual friction, which disappears when they are hot.

On the other hand, a bicycle with caliper brakes that don't make contact, will allow its wheels to spin freely for at least 30 seconds, if the bearings are well oiled and adjusted correctly, if you stand it upside down. But that is rather different to a Mini....
