Two further things:
- sidelight bulb is earthing the headlamp bowl
- side light connector (the one connecting the two red wires for the two lamps, near the 'slam' panel) is earthing on the front panel

If you have fitted later style lamps in the old style headlamp bowl, you are crushing wires when you put the lamp back in. even more so when you fit the retaining ring and chrome rim. You usually have to make a cutout for later style sidelights or fit the later plastic bowls with the cutout already in them.
I assume it is still working when you have the lamp out of the bowl or is it not working at all now?
If not working then you need to trace the circuit with a test probe or meter to find where the current stops flowing. If you have created a short circuit, then you have probably burnt out a switch or connection.
Use a circuit diagram to find the path that the circuit takes and trace from source to load, or load to source.
