Hello all,

I am wondering if anyone has had a similar problem? The widescreen from my car is bigger than the apeture on one side. The apeture is 41cm tall on one side and 40cm on the other and I cannot get the screen to it.

It is the screen that came out of the car, the roof, pillars and scuttle have not been touched so I cannot understand this anomaly!

Any ideas?

Thanks

Neil

Very strange Neil, it may be worth trimming some of the upper and lower flange at the affected end. I did that with Erm to even it up.

What should the gap be? For when I fit my scuttle :)

I always fit the screen in before I weld the scuttle in just to check its right,

Yeah it is odd. Will have to get trimming. I can only imagine it was either built like this or had a crunch (I suspect it has).

I boobed when it came to Erms windscreen, i thought with it being a Heritage panel and lined up with the original it would have been ok but not the case.

Now i take measurements before a scuttle removal and mirror these when i fit a new scuttle. A lesson learnt for me and what minidaves has said would have been the perfect way to check.

However just had a thought here is the windscreen rubber a new one or the old one?? maybe a difference in manufacturing tolerances. I'm saying this as we used a brand new rubber on Erm. A possibility??

Sadly the previous owner removed the full scuttle on mine.

In your case I would suggest fitting an entire windscreen surround instead of just the scuttle. That way the dimensions will be correct. It comes with a vertical bar in the middle that should not be cut out until it is welded into the car, to keep it stable. It it does not fit the car, you will know which bits of the car to adjust.

The other advantages are that it gives you the opportunity to clean out, de-rust and paint the inside of the windscreen pillars, etc, and that you don't need to do seam welds anywhere, especially at the base of the pillars, where imperfect lining up is hard to disguise.

No need for a full windscreen surround. I have the measurements of an unmolested window frame at the workshop. I will see if I can get them before work tonight.

As promised the gaps for the windscreen,

At each end before the curve of the corners is 41 cm and then in the very centre it's 41.5 cms. This is flange edge to flange edge. This is top to bottom.

These measurements are taken from a 79 Mini Special.

No probs  :D  :D  oh and this was an original scuttle before anybody thinks it may have been changed in the past. ;D  It looked good on top but was crusty on the underside and the upper section of the bulkhead.

I give up! Would it be too extreme to cut the windscreen pillar and extend it by 5mm?
