Hello,

The gears are stripped on my sunroof on my 2008 clubman and it is stuck partially open on one side (both panes). This is particuarly a problem because it has started to become winter and i live in Seattle. Lets just say there is a good amount of rain.

The dealership told me that i have to replace the entire cassette, which they quoted me at $3000 USD.

This sounds absurd.

Is there anyway the gears can be replaced without having to replace the entire sunroof? They said they tried to close it but stoped because they didnt want to break the sunroof.

Ideas? Suggestions? I dont really need the sunroof to open again (although it would be nice), so if there is an easy solution to close it for the winter that would be quite helpful. I am not looking forword to the other option of a giant blue tarp and duct tape over my mini... poor mini,,, :)

Thank you!

Hi,

I dont know how to help with your problem but a little advice.

This is a great forum, a real nice place but it leans more towards classic minis.

It might be worth you checking the mini2 forum for advice

This forum is for all Minis, please don't send people away before those members who could help have a chance to.  Lots of us have both old and new minis.  Some of these replies are bordering on warnings.

I couldn't agree more. I find this tedious beyond belief :(. While TMF is definitely a more MINI friendly forum than when I joined coming up to 6 years ago, it could do more to welcome those who ask MINI questions. I know from personal experience that totalMINI is a good forum, however there are many members on here who own both Minis and MINIs or who are knowledge about both, so it surely it would be better to allow them to try and help (24 hours or so) before directing the OP to another forum.
