Yesterday I started stripping the mg metro down. It has been stood inside for years ztill in the original car. I drained the radiator and removed the other items such as starter and alternator. My mate said to try turning the engine over and it turned easily. The only thing I have noticed is that the water pump doesn't have a bypass hose so what is the best way to sort that. Also I want to get a payen headset but apparently there are two types depending on whether I want the head gasket with oil feed grommet or without. I am also planning on changing the valve stem seals and crank seals etc. Any tips on this conversion would be great.

you say no bypass on water as far as I can see either change it or block the head

I have no bypass on my mg metro

I use bk450 seems good head gasket

you can buy the mpi valve seals or some standard, mpi is better and expensive

I don't have any stems on my exhaust

If you want to run it without the sandwich plate under the thermostat housing drill a few holes around the rim of the thermostat which does the same job as the bypass hose.

As for head gasket as above i use a BK450 on my MG Metro unit.

For valve stem seals the MPI viton ones are supposed to be best if a bit more pricy: http://www.minispare.../LJQ101160.aspx
