Hi Guys,

Im renovating an old mini and just going for a fast road/rally look and have found out that my 1275 metro engine (12HD24) has a cracked piston and shattered rings on one cylinder.

The bores are not scored and should clean up well.

I have the bare block on the bench as i type and am wondering what spec to go for (best bang for my buck). Seeing as the bare block is there do i just get it honed and stick a set of new rings and pistons in or as i have it broken down do i get it bored and go for something a bit bigger?

It had a RC40 and LCB on it when i got it and im assuning the standard carb and cylinder head too.

I have had a look at MED's website and am interested in the 1380 'Road Competition' kit at £799 MED link .

Will i need anything over and above what i can already scavenge off my existing 1275 metro engine?

I am not new to mechanical work but i am new to modifying engines and upgrading parts so as much information and as many options the better!

Many thanks
Se7

sounds like you have things pretty much covered. I would go for an uprated head aswell though. No use in going larger on the engine and then strangling it with a standard head. Talk to them, they may do you a deal or something if you have the kit and a head upgrade (it never hurts to ask!)

What carb is it? HIF44 I presume of the metty? Should be OK for now, and it gives you something to play with later on!
