Hi all,

Does anyone have any good suggestions or recommendations for someone to transport a Mini for a few miles from one garage to another near the East London/Essex area? The car is "off the road" i.e. no tax, test, insurance, so it would need to be transported on a trailer or low loader. Most commercial companies that I can see don't seem best suited to this type of job and want to charge a fortune for a small job. Basically I'm removing my Mini from a useless shyster who has been spectacularly unable to complete the restoration of my car despite having it for an incredible nightmare FOUR YEARS (don't ask - I have posted on this sorry debacle elsewhere on the forum if you care to search!) and am taking it to someone more than willing to help salvage the operation, but who unfortunately can't provide the transportation.

I've been well and truly spanked, financially and otherwise, during this "restoration", so I need to keep the costs as low as possible if I'm ever going to salvage the job... :/

Here's hoping...

You could hire a trailer, that's what I did. If you don't have a towing car then maybe you can hire a flatbed.
Alternatively, you could ask someone who has a towing car if they could help you.

That would be an easy option - but unfortunately whilst I know many people with cars, I don't know any with towbars! :)

I've used a one man breakdown/recovery operator before, you can often negotiate a good rate if you're flexible so they can do it at their convenience. Alternatively, look where people will have trailers - local motorsport competitors, small scale car dealers...

Likewise, I have used a couple of recovery truck, one-man-bands. Either from phone book, ebay or recommendation. Last time I needed a car moved about 8 miles it cost me £40 on a Saturday morning.

There is a site that is based on things like this isn't there?

Can't remember what it's called other than I think begins with an 's'

Go onto shiply.co.uk I think it is, you usually get a reasonable deal on there

When your on shiply make sure you give it a good few days though, as the first bid they put in is just that a bid, it works the same as eBay but the price goes down not up,

Nice - thanks all - I'll give them a try. Never thought of anyvan/shiply type services. I've only ever used them to move a sofa before :)

Deev is it an RSP you're having trouble with?

I only ask as it looks like one on your profile picture. If it is is it on the RSP register?

Matt.

I used a local breakdown guy with a flatbed. £30 for local pick up and drop off. Job done !
