Hello everyone. I am in desperate need of an engine steady, i'm after the bracket that attaches to the stabiliser in this picture (gearbox end). Does the other end attach straight to sub-frame?

is this the right bracket? engine is rocking so much exhaust manifold has snapped!!

Is there a side which should be supported first as priority or does each side suffer from the same amount of pressure/rock? Very strapped for cash an the car has no low steady's what so ever.

Thanks in advance,

Mr Thirty

Try the Somerford Mini web site, because it will give an exploded diagram of all the parts, and it will be clear which goes where. I would give you a link, but I am at work, on lunch break, and our system blocks access to Somerford.

The other end of that steady attaches to a bracket in the subframe, however that is often found to have broken on earlier cars. Mine went at less than 20k miles. I repaired it and welded in another bracket, same size, so that the steady was sandwiched between them, with the bolt in double shear. 200k miles later it was still ok.

The gearbox end bracket was also prone to fractures, and later ones were thicker.

You need a minimum of two steadies, the top from block to master cylinder plate on bulkhead, and the lower, in your picture. Adding more at the opposite end of the engine is not usually necessary.

The top and bottom steadies all take the same bushes. I would suggest getting one set of 4 rubber bushes and one set of poly, and put the poly at the body or subframe end of each steady.
