Hi all, been having some trouble with a spot of rough running today. Car is an 87 Mayfair and the engine is pretty much standard with an hs2 carb.
The engine idles fine on start up, but after a couple of minutes driving if I depress the clutch, the revs will fall down and not be caught by the idle, and drop to 0. The engine also starts struggling if I decelerate with it in gear, if I'm pulling up to traffic lights the engine starts feeling very laboured below 2k rpm and I can feel the engine slowing the car dramatically. I've checked and the spark plugs are a good tan colour and tve gaps are correct. I gave the dizzy a wipe inside, a spray of wd40 and another wipe, but the 4 points look quite marked and a little past their best. I'm assuming this is an ignition problem not fueling as the engine runs fine above 2k or so rpm.
Colour me confused!

An 87 mayfair will have an HS4 carb.
Looks like you have some breather disconnected, like engine breather to the carb.

The carb has the diagonal bolt pattern of an hs2, according to the HBOL, only 2 mounting bolts. You know that might be spot on as the tapper cover breather hose is split quite badly at one end. I'll give replacing it a shot
