Hi all, I have just bought this rather cool looking digital tacho to add an 80's touch to my largely 60's/70's dash, but I just wanted to confirm wiring before I go ahead - the red and black wires are live and earth and the green wire I gather is supposed to connect to the (-) terminal on the coil, but several sites say that "aftermarket ignition systems will have a separate wire to attach this too" so do I attach it to the coil or somewhere else, as I didnt see any extra wires when I installed the ignition. Thanks!

The gauge I bought:

Id wire it to the coil. The standard tachometer is wired to the coil, and still works with electronic ignition.

The after market ignition systems they refer too are the ECU modules like Omex, these provide their own trigger wire. yours is a more basic connection (assuming you have an electronic distributor module). Without reading the instructions I suspect the green wire is the trigger wire and should be connected to the Neg side of the coil, then batt and earth for the red black. As usual consult the manufacturers guidance.

Did the gauge not come with instructions?  If not, follow the above advice from The Principal.

Red wires are typically switched +12V (fused if you like), black is earth, and green is the sense wire.  If you have an ignition coil, the green wire goes to coil (-)... the distributor side of the coil.

There may be one or two other wires for gauge illumination.  White is used by some vendors for the lighting circuit.
