hello,

so yesterday i tried starting the mini after a few years of standing still.

but the jet was leaking again. thats a different story, ordered a new rebuild carb.

so i kept the engine turning over but nothing happend. or is happening. after a few minutes of turning over i opened the float bowl, to find no fuel in there stange i thought ?

so today ive blown true the fuel line to the tank, thinking something whas blocking it but everything was ok.

so i disconnected the fuel line arriving at the pump and let the girlfriend turn over the car, while i whas holding my finger on the inlet.

i cant wreally say i whas feeling any 'suction' from the pump would i feel it when the engine is cranking ? or am i missing something ?

I'm not sure which pipe you disconnected to test the fuel pump efficiency, but to see if it's your pump causing the problem, you would need to remove the fuel inlet pipe from the carb (inlet to the float bowl) then position a suitable container over the open fuel pipe and crank the engine over. If you get a strong pulsing flow of fuel through the pipe then I would say the pumps ok, if its weak and a bit dribbly the pump is starting to fail and will be restricting fuel flow to the carb.

SAFETY NOTE - Do not have any naked flames, open sparks or smoke while doing the above, and ensure you properly re-connect the fuel line and test it for leaks.

I would also check the float bowl needle valve. When you gently push down on the float the valve should open to allow fuel to enter the float bowl (works just like a toilet cistern and ballcock really). They sometimes get stuck closed if the cars been stood a few years. If its stuck you may be able to free it up.

Is your jet leak issue related to the fuel starvation ??

Lastly, I'm sure you've checked the obvious ..... :whistling:

Let us know how you get on.

hi thanks for the reply,

ive tested a few items :).

i have first blown some air to the fuel tank from the inlet hose from the carb. so the air was going true the pump bubbels in the fuel tank :)

then ive blown air from the hose right before the fuel pump to the tank, again confirmed by my lovely assistend she was hearing bubbels.

then i connected everything back up.

and started cranking again, a good few minutes. and still nothing.

even after yesterdays cranking, almost untill battery went flat no fuel in the float boal. also checked the needle in the float boal whas working as it should be.

then, i tried cranking with my finger on the inlet of the pump but nothing was, how would you say this, creating a vacuum ? on my finger with the inlet ? to suck the fuel up ?

The only way you'll know will be to turn the engine over with the fuel inlel hose detached from the inlet of the bowl as I mentioned.

No fuel flow = faulty pump.

tried this to no avael ? so i can assume my pump went to pump heaven ?

will give it a go again tomorrow, letting it crank but i thought, that i wouldn`t take long to bring the fuel from the tank to the float bowl...

looks like a nice job to do with the engine in situ...
