What starter are we talking about? inertia or pre-engeaged, if its where the cable connects on the inertia then you can buy spare parts as reqyuired and the same for the later type, depends how old the starter is and what the rest is like when you check it over
Ring Mini Spares or failing them Someford Mini they keep lots of electrical repair parts

The threaded connection posts are the solenoid contacts at the other end. You can strip it down & find service parts on eBay etc.

I don't work on any cars that have the pre-engaged starter but from looking at parts diagrams I thought the entire pre-engaged starter solenoid could be replaced as a unit?

It can, if it's the operating terminal (red/white or red/brown wire) you might get lucky with a soldering iron if it's just a dry joint.
