Last night I saw the new movie 'Rush' about James Hunt and Niki Lauda and the one of the things that took my attention more than anything was his mini, its got the number KLE 767D on it, but that is (was) registered to a Triumph Vitesse:

Date of Liability: 28/04/1981
Date of First Registration: 13/05/1966
Year of Manufacture: Not Available
Cylinder Capacity (cc): 1596cc
CO₂ Emissions: Not Available
Fuel Type: PETROL
Export Marker: Y
Vehicle Status: Unlicensed
Vehicle Colour: WHITE
Vehicle Type Approval: Not Available

Having said that, the mini looked bloody lush and you got some good driving scenes with it too, anyone know anymore on the car?
Ooooooh and I *cough, cough* sat in *cough, cough* James Hunts hesketh racer, and met his son Freddie, who seems to be taking after his dad; when I met him he was walking out of the pits with a girl on each arm and was overly nice to me, almost as if he was showing off....   ;D  ;D  ;D

Most of the time when we put a car in a film or on TV, if it will be heavily featured, it has what is known as a 'cleared' registration put on it.  That is they find a registration that is of the right period and not currently in use by anyone so that there is no possible litigation down the line.  I can't remember who did the action cars for Rush (other than the race cars) but if I remember who it was I'll see if I can find out anything if you like.

The car a replica, not a genuine 'S' but a later mini, so i'm not surprised they used some random 'period' numbers

surely 70 odd hp is a bit low for a 1380?

I actually watched Rush last night and wondered about the mini and i thought it was on Yoki's.....which werent around then lol. As for the power yeh 70bhp is pretty low as it should be closer to 90+ all depending on the spec

78bhp at the wheels maybe? It's a corker of a mini, barring the Mamba buckets.

I watched Rush for the first time last night. If I'm being honest, I wasn't mightily impressed. Don't get me wrong, it was watchable. Not Oscar winning though and I thought that the BBC documentary was much better.
