Hi all..

Having joined today I thought I better introduce myself...

I bought my first Car, a 1963 Morris Mini Traveller, in 1967.  I had it for 11 years until the tin worm got the better of it.  Knowing now where and why Minis rust away I thought I could do better than Leyland so I bought a new body shell in 1976 and from the remains of a scrapped and incomplete 1964 all steel traveller and mostly new parts I built myself a new car and registered it as new in 1978.  It was our only family transport for many years and 35 years on I still have it and no welding or replacement panels have been needed.

At the Gaydon Mini show a few years ago it was one of 12 cars nominated for best of the show.  It is not and was never intended to be a show car it was just another working Mini and it's still in its original paint.

I also have a Gardner Douglas GD427 Kit Car which I built over some 9 years or so and also a classic BSA Lightning Motorcycle.

Now then, it's not often I need any help with the Mini but I could do with a bit of advice which I'll post separately in the relevant section.

Dave

Hi Guys

Thanks for the welcome.

Here you go Alex...  Some Pictures...  Not sure why in the preview each Pic appears twice.

The Mini Dashboard was made out of a part of the English Electric Sign that was outside Didcot Power Station when it was being constructed.  It still has the yellow writing on a green background on the back.  It has a whole load of electronics on the car.  Every external lamp down to the Number plate lights on the trailer are monitored and most lights are controlled by Semiconductors and not relays.

Some 10 years ago it was looking a bit jaded so I refurbished the engine as it had done some 80,000 miles and repainted the engine bay and the bit behind the front number plate as it was badly stone chipped.  It has the Swedish  Front Rear split Drum brakes and  uses the now unobtainable GWC159 (37H8059) Master cylinder.

As regards the Gardner Douglas the engine is a 6,300cc Stroked Small block Chevvy.  On the Dyno it gave 446BHP and 441ft/lbs of torque.  A tad more exciting than the Mini!!

Regards

Denis
