My mini is a 998. The engine was overhauled 5000km ago. I renovaties the carb by installing a new jet, needle, schaft and bearings. Last week a mini garage tried to setup the mini but they failed.

It is running a bit rough and idle sneed can not be set less than 1100 rpm. Timing is ok and distributor is fine as well. I suspect the carb because it is wet at the jet base. Please advice on how to approach.

Jet setting is about 2,8 mm 0,10inch below the base of the carb. Seems a bit much and Engine is still running lean (sprak plug white)

Could be due to a number of things.

Wrong needle for application

Worn needle valve in the float (this will also cause fuel overflow from the lid vent)

Wrong float height

Wrong jet centering

Nothing that someone experienced with SU's can fix.

Maybee it is best to change the carb and see if iT improves. Than i can make sure it is caused by the carb

Take the carb off and ensure the butterfly is sealing as well as it can, and make sure there are no holes in the vacuum advance pipe or in the servo take off, obviously only if your car has a servo and if it has an engine breather plumbed into the carb, make sure there are no holes anywhere in that system

I will check my servo. Vacum advance pipe is okay. Possibly the valve does not close properly, maybe caused after replacing the schaft.
