I have had a monte carlo windscreen fitted to my Mk 1.(1966)- Relays are in position.

My question is as follows

The screen has three contacts at the base of the screen. Two outer and one in the centre. I guess the outer ones are the live load  with the centre as earth? Is this correct-

Nearly finished after nearly four years of refurbishment.

See attached wiring diagram from MiniSpares.

Hope this helps.

Phil.

Do they offer a specific switch? It could offer 2 operating modes by either earthing both ends or isolating the middle terminal and switchinging one end to +12v, hard to make sense of the diagram otherwise.

Using the centre as a common supply, or earth should work fine. It will be better via an ignition switched relay, and  better still with a timer (or other means) to stop it from being left on longer than it's needed.

I agree the diagram is confusing.  The later screen I fitted only had connections at either end, so that was easy !!

I wonder if the diagram is related to the "original" TOK type switch used by "the works" on the rally cars, in which case each side was separately switched (I think........).

Maybe Peter (Cooperman) can shed some light on it.

Phil.

There are two types of heated screen.

The first has the twin heated areas, LH & RH, and for that you use the diagram as shown by Mini Spares, or a different wiring set-up to suit what you want. The Mini Spares diagram suits replica 'works' rally cars and uses the 'rotary' switch as used by the 'works' in the late '60's.

The other type of screen is completely heated and has the bus-bars near top & bottom so that they don't intrude upon the vision. With that type you need one relay and a power feed plus a signal feed via a switch on the dashboard.

I used to have the early twin-area type and I simply used 2 toggle switches and 2 relays, with a common earth and a feed to each end of the screen. Subsequently I fitted a later type with less obtrusive bus-bars and just used one switch & one relay.

By the way, I also have a warning light as if the screen is left on it quickly drains the battery.

I hope this helps.

Does anyone know which 6RA relay is needed as there seems to be many variations?

I have the minisport version with three wires, going with a TOK switch.

Part Number: GAC40251 Description: Dual zone screens Applications: Universal
www.moss-europe.co.uk from a spire nut to a bodyshell

Moss motors has what appears to be a complete kit for either of the two types of heated wind screens.
Nice electrical drawing.
