My heads fried at the minute trying to sort out a problem with obtaining a V5

when i bought my mini there was no chassis plate fixed to the slam panel, had been removed prior to painting and is now lost. I got no tax book and have been writing to the DVA explaining the difficulty. They say I need to obtain the chassis number. I have the commission plate, keepers name and reg number is confirmed, Have no old tax discs.

Anyone any idea if british heritage would be able to give me the chassis number going on commission number and reg. details ?

if the vehicle is a 60's or early 70's then apply for a heritage certificate based on the registration. That should give you the chassis number. Unfortunately there's very little cross referencing between the commission number and the chassis, and hence registration.

Heritge can no trace a car with a registration number. When the cars were recorded durig manufacture there were not yet registered. The car were not givn their registration numbers until they were registered by the supplying dealer.

The commission nubers refer to a specific specification of car, and many cars have the same commision number, and thus are not unique on each car.

finally sorted the V5, DVA aren't all that bad :proud: . One really helpful person in DVA finally saw the real world out here and granted a log book based on relevant facts that were on his computer about the clubby, and I found out it was '77 not '80. Now getting it ready for MOT and twisty roads.. whoohoo
