Took my old bearings out of some old hubs today and noticed this which i have not seen before. Is it supposed to go between the inner bearing and dust sheild ?

(not my photo, it is the ring which is cut at one end)

Also, does the conical washer behind the hub nut need to be replaced ?

Cheers

Dan.

It goes between the inner bearing and the seal. It is intended to ensure clearance between the seal and the bearing. It was discontinued as a cost saving. So optional really.

I usually fit a new taper washer, nut and split pin. I have seen used taper washers fracture second time around.
