Evening everyone, 

 

I changed the plugs in the Mini this morning, I noticed that two of the old plugs were the straw colour that they're supposed to be, one was black and sooty and one didn't have much colour on it at all. (pic below)

The old plugs had been in about a year and have done about 7,000 miles and in that time the engine would run a bit lumpy when it was cold, but when it was up to temperature it would be fine.

 

I'm wondering what you guys' thoughts are, thanks in advance. Matt

Not unusual for an A Series, the inner & outer cylinders have different induction & exhaust characteristics, and the water circulation is off one end of the engine. Some clean plugs in a warm engine followed by a decent length run would give you a better indication if there was something untoward, like poor compression or leaky valve seals.

I haven't been able to get out for a long run, I've just been to-ing and fro-ing to work, about 15 minutes each way so enough to warm up. It's still the same problem of not pulling properly from low revs when cold, but it sorts itself out when its warmed up.

I can't say I've noticed it doing that.
