I changed my points to electric and the timing was off. So me and my dad had a go at the timing. Had a look for timing markings and all we could see is a arrow.

The car is running pretty rough, we have checked all vacuum pipes but it still runs bad.

We even put the old points back on and it'd still horrible to drive.

Im really losing my patience with this car, any help would be great.

Did it have a misfire before you changed to electronic ignition?

re set the timing, piston no1(radiator side of engine) at tdc, then put your electronic dizzy in with the rotor arm at roughly 1 oclock position, then try start the car(rotate the distributor body slowly until the car starts), then increase the idle to 1000 rpm, untill you hear a slight pinking, then retard the dizzy slightly.  you might need to fine tune the timing by rotating the dizzy if the car is hesitant under load.

that's not good, regardless of timing those figures and the last 3 are really low.

could be ring problems, or if your lucky valves need adjusting

the arrow is the timing marker, and on the pulley should be a notch

In fact its a big arrow, with about 4 or 5 smaller peaks

did you have throttle open as you took each reading

Compression readings should all be within 5-10 psi.

Did you have all of the plugs out and the engine warm when doing the tests? Also was the battery still spinning the motor over at the same speed on the last reading as the first one - this 116 is really low.

To do a compression test i was always told all plugs should be removed and it should be wide open throttle. Carry out the test again then put a dab of oil down the bores and see what happens

what I dont understand is that the misfire only happened when I installed the electric ignition and when we put the points back on it was still misfiring.
