yep thats true
later mini's had a big rain shield fitted as standard
you could buy one of these rain shields or the old cheap way is a marigold glove over the dizzy cap
a finger for each plug lead and a thum for the coil lead
first make sure every thing is clean and dry and oil free

Mine did the same, i just spray WD 40 inside it. Works fine now.
Some say you should use it as it make a silicon cover of it.. but hey.. its running fine so ill leave it at that.
But the sound of a machine gun is always fun

I`m only using silikone plug leads.
Works fine, even in the heavyest rain-storm
A VERY cheap rain shield:
Buy a low-budget dustpan, cut off the handle and fix it in front of the distributor.
Works fine - and the best: you can choose between different colours!
Isn`t it great!?
cheers,
Jan
PS: low-budget tuning rocks

And if the colour is a concern (like you don't want yellow or pink) then Woolwirths sell silver ones

Well I once tried the marigold method, but the heat of the engine just made it fall to pieces in no time and coating everything in WD40 isn't always a good move, yes it's a quick fix if your dizzy gets soaked, but your Mini will generally become dependant on the stuff as WD40 leaves a coating that attracts dirt and grime and you'll be spraying regularly to remove that and add more etc.
The best thing is to fit a nice clean good quality dizzy cap and HT leads (silicone are good they say) and perhaps smear some Petroleum Jelly (vaseline) on the inside edge of the dizzy cap and then use the ignition shield that your Mini should have had fitted when new.
Then you shouldn't have any problems?
