Hi,

I need an expert opinion or two on my crankshaft :)

MG Metro crank (CAM6581), engine had 35k on the clock and was running fine (5 years ago). Overhauling the whole engine before installation in to my GT (Head refurb, Shells, Followers, Rings etc etc) Removing the flywheel was a pita, which left metal on the tail and a chip out of the flywheel. I had the excess metal on the tail ground off at the machine shop. Journals look/feel OK, the centre main has a groove I can feel with my nail.

Is it game over, or can I get away with it?

Thanks,

John

Yes, it will be fine. Just clean it up and make sure the flywheel fits snugly, then 'lap' the flywheel on using a fine valve grinding paste and you'll have no problems.

Presumably you are having the crank reground in view of the wear/damage to the centre main bearing?

Yes I need to do some ringing round, find somewhere local to do it. What sort of price should I expect to pay? Just bought standard shells so hope I don't need a size up! :s
