Hi, i have a 1993 mini Tahiti I've owned it since I was 16 as my first car and I'm now 22 .

like many others have became attached to it , but I have some problems , I have spent £1000s on a series engines and all that seams to happen is no matter how much you spend on them if you modify them in the end they WILL brake (lol) I just can't afford to keep throwing ££££ at it especially at its my daly driver,

So I'm really interested in an engine conversion as I'm in quite a good position as my brother is a coded welder and fabricator and my self a tool maker / machinists so I will be building the subframe brackets drive shafts etc etc my self to keep the price down to a minimum ,

The problem I'm having is selecting the correct car with the correct engine etc to use ? I would really like to use a 1.4 16v for the conversion to keep the road tax down and fuel consumption up :-) and see if it is possible to use the standard fuel injection system ecu ignition etc ?

Thanks in advance

Kind regards Tony :-D

Have a read through some of these, some great builds!
An A series shouldnt be unreliable as long as you keep it well maintained and serviced :P

Hi, thanks I will have a look through there ,

it's not that it's unreliable, it's more the fact if put a lot of trust in to some of the big names in mini suppliers and mini shops the get bits I.e stage 3 cylinder head, roller tip rockers, cam, pistons etc etc and yet the engine still isn't right, the rockers got damaged as the push rods pushed in to the back of them due to needing pedestal spacers even though I was told when purchasing them I didn't , pluss the lb age on the valve springs where so heigh they broke the rocker shaft bent the push rods took the lobes of the cam and riped the cam bearings out etc etc and the valve springs wasn't going coil bound , I had to use my dad's lorry valve spring compressor to remove them as they bent the standard car one ! Lol

But that's the past and I'm looking for advice on a 16v engine now thanks :-)

Cheers Tony

Sorry to hear of your woes... but

', I had to use my dad's lorry valve spring compressor to remove them as they bent the standard car one ! Lol'

That would have told me straight away something aint right. If you cant move the spring, how is the cam going to?

Get over on the 16v mini forum loads of builds and info on there.
I went for the Vauxhall 1600 16v.Im sure all speed do a subframe now that takes all the Vauxhall engines so when you get fed up of the 1400 (which in time you will) you can go 16000 then 1800 then red top.
