Really starting to get into my books again lately. Just finished "The Ice Man"...really good read and I couldn't put it down. I love my Stephen King books, Christine been one of my favourites. I also adore any history books, Titanic, War of the Roses etc.

Here's a few questions for you guys...

  • Favourite book?
  • Favourite type of book?
  • Your current/future read?
  • Suggestions of books that people could enjoy?

Favourite probably changes from time to time but I really like The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nigh Time, Mark Haddon.  Also love A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian by Marina Lewycka.  Not going to be everyones cup of tea though.  Reading another Mark Haddon called The Red House at the moment when I actually get chance to sit and read in peace!  Recently finished The Woman That Went to Bed for a Year by Sue Townsend.  Laugh out loud funny!  Also like William Sutcliffes writing - hoping to get his new book for Christmas (hint hint if anyone is reading!!).  I'd recommend anything by any of those authors to be honest!  Good characters and good plots to follow.  I used to read a lot of horror and thrillers but not so much any more.

Cheers

Em x

1984 is my favourite book, but any of Orwells are up there. I have 2 first editions of his, the road to Wigan pIer and the lion and the unicorn. Presently reading palestian walks, it's about the changes in Palestine since the Israeli invasion. I read all sorts but it has to be something that makes me think. I have about 100 books waiting to be read, everything from Jack London's the iron heel, to a biography of general Giap with Churchills history of WW2 in between. I mostly read non fiction now.

As stated in the other thread, The Eagle Has Landed is my favourite book. The Millennium Trilogy is also brilliant. I recently read a couple of books relating to Thailand (Confessions of a Bangkok Private Eye and one about an Australian guy who ended up doing about 12 years in a Thai prison for drug smuggling). They were both really good. I have the history of MI5 to read, but it is a huge beast of a book and it puts me off even starting it!

I have just started reading a book by another guy who is ex MI-5, and the book I believe is still banned from sale in the UK, but it is about the possibility of one of its former directors possibly working for the Russians. Should be an interesting read.

I do like reading but I am quite lazy at the moment and I haven't read anything properly for ages.
