Hi technical folk... ever since I have had my Mini (not even 2 years) the front centre caps on the wheels have not been present. I have them on my back wheels though. I also dug out a picture from a previous owner and they are missing back in 2000 as well. SO, I bought some in Brighton the other day... and guess what?? They don't fit over the purtruding bolt! (see pics) Why is this?? I just want it to look all neat and tidy

'because you've got the wrong ones probably. Nearly every make of wheel uses different centre caps, you need the right ones. Either that or because they have to be fitted from the rear of the wheel and you've shoved them through the front.

I'll take one of the other ones off the back and find out... am taking the wheels of on the weekend to change the arches. For the record, they are KNs.

The center caps fit on the rear because there is either spacers or spacered drums fitted. The front drums are not spacered so the nut sticks that bit further through the wheel center preventing the caps you have seating correctly. I think there should be domed type caps fitted. The wheels do look like GB alloys or very similar and they have the dome type caps. The other way round it is to fit spacered drums on the front, but dont be surprised that the wheels may foul the arches at the front.

Are people sure centre caps were fitted to the front wheels of disc braked minis as standard? I know mine has got any either, although I did have S brakes on mine...

Well with steelies, no. But with alloys, yes. But then whether you have drums or disks the CV nut sits further out anyway, hence why I recon the wrong caps are fitted

Oh and I've just had a thought, the reason spacered drums are fitted at the rear is because of the size of the hub cap, it will not fit in the center of those wheels( GB alloys have a huge hole in the center for this reason)
