What are you calling main & full, to me they are the same thing?

Main, the blue dash light comes on - blue/white wire.

Dipped, other driver's don't flash you angrily - blue/red wire.

Probably the bulb or dodgy/connections / wiring at the light.

I'd be looking at the connections behind the grill to find the fault, and the main earth connection on the R/H inner wing on the bracing bracket, ones that fix themselves always come back

Scotch locks, they are intended to tap a new connection into an existing wire, and are used as a slightly botchy way to join cables.

I think I'd just splice the wire ends and cover in adhesive heat shrink, but replacing with a join free length back to the bullets behind the grille would be better.

+1 on what Ethel said above, scotchlocks are the bain of a auto electricians world very short lived and poor connections always result sooner or later.
