Hi guys i'm wanting to fit some wingmirrors (the kind that actually fit to the wings rather than the doors) as on a lot of mk1's. I believe it was an optional extra and a lot put aftermarkets on. Does anybody know the correct/best place to fit them? In terms of looking right, and working as they should. Half way down the wing? 3/4 of the way? If anybody has it done and they work well were they are pics/measurements would be great. Thank you!

Enter 'Morris Mini Minor Photos' into Google and it comes up with loads of photos of Mk.1's with wing mirrors in all sorts of positions. Then you choose where to fit yours.
Of course, in the days of Mk.1's it was not necessary to fit wing mirrors at all and most people didn't bother.

That sounds about right. I have a set of the original type which I might put onto the '64 850 I'm restoring.

IIRC wing mirrors were never fitted by the factory. They were offered as a dealer fit option. What this meant was that the dealer got out their Black & Decker and stuck a couple of holes, wherever they thought, through your shiny new paint! That's why so many cars bubbled with rust around the mirrors!
Have a Google of 'BMC Mini production line' images and I think you won't find any with mirrors fitted. So, as Cooperman say's, there is no 'correct' position. Just pick what's best for you.

Cool, think i'll put mine in the same place as yours olds_kool_lews. Thanks for the tip!
ado15, you're right they were never standard, but ive seen a few pics from the early 60's with aftermarket mirrors on and think they look great, just wondered if there was a standard place most people fitted them but it does appear it varies a lot!

They were factory fitted for Vans and Estates (and probably Pick-ups) as they were a legal requirement

My '63 had them, they were a dealer fit when new.
My Traveller also had them, but they were old and a bit loose and had a habit of rotating when driving along.
I don't think wing mirrors are that good, especially on the motorway when you need to overtake a lorry or coach. The blind spot is too large and it is best to have a good look over your shoulder before you pull out.

That's interesting. I hadn't found that picture in my searches All the ones I could find were saloons and none of them showed mirrors.

Thanks for the info, and great pics, You've got some beautiful mini's there! I dont really ever drive on the motorway in mine, its more for corners and cyclists as at the moment i just have a door mounted drivers side mirror and it would give me a little extra peace of mind to be able to see whats happening on my left!
