hi recently puurchased a quick shift gear lever. removed gater and unclipped standard sheath from two pins on the top of the gear box. this allowed me to remove the standard gear stick from the well. however the new sheath will not go back onto the gearbox because of these pins. the haynes manual appears to show the pins as being threaded. however they are not and with no amount of force will they come out! (ive tried mole grips the lot!) i dont want to cut them off as this will mean i wont be able to replace the standard gear shifter should the new one not work or wateva. please help! the mini is a 1990 mini mayfair 1000

Cheers
Mike

hit em harder. stop messing about! They are just roll pins and will come out eventually. (be a bit careful though as the casting isn't *that* strong)

either that, or lever them out, or cut them off and drill the rest of the pin out (again though, be careful. if it slips then you're case will be ruined. you also dont want any swarf in the casing... it won't do the changer much good!). you can always replace the pins if you want to put the standard one back....

oh, and welcome..... weakling! ;D

I had a cheap one and ended up machining it so it locks on in the same was as the original does.
