Engine Sounds Tappy Even Though Tappets Been Done.

Hello,

I adjusted my tappets to 12 thou but still sounds tappy.

Any ideas

Could be blowing exhaust
Unlikely but heck, its a Mini

Check the oil level, if it's low this might makes it more noisy than it should be. Or alternatively is the oil getting up there.

I thought they were always tappy, and the biggest reason for an alloy rocker cover was to muffle the noise a bit!

Could be wear on rocker pads, or even low quality oil

Usually associated with worn valve train, including cam follower bores, pitted followers and or poor rocker geometry.
Using modern high ramp rate cams also increases noise.

I've put a sw5 cam in it. I also de coked and lapped the valves. Will have a look
