Hi. Using my 1990 998 auto as a daily and concerned about salt on the roads dissolving it like a flying saucer (remember those?) come the bad weather.

Its been undersealed by the looks by the prev owner but wondering what else I should do?

Its garaged overnight, but would a gentle tickle with a carefully directed jet wash over the sills and under wheel arches a couple of times a week (keeping well away from electrical bits and bobs) help at all?

Ive always been told jet washers should never be used on minis. Try a hose :P

But on the other side, pressure washing is the only way to remove the nasty stuff from the underside.

I'd say, get a snowfoam so you can wash your car on the drive, its very effective.

Thanks for the comments. This place never lets you down. I understand the reluctance to use jet wash but the shell and subframes are pretty much rust free. I want them to stay that way.

ideally something that takes as little time and hassle as possible but is effective as removing salt and other nasties is what im looking for. Its not a showcar and the paint isn't immaculate. Just looking to keep the rot away.

I'll google snow foam jaydee. Sounds interesting.

I keep a bucket and sponge in the garage and spend a quick 5 mins getting all the road crap off my naked Yamaha XJR1300, quick hose blast, wash, rinse. Each time I get back. Its got many more exposed unpainted metal parts though.

Turn the pressure down on the pressure washer then!

I used one on my mini never had any problems, just keep it away from the body like 30-40cm or so and you're less likely to start blasting things off! As suggested a snow foam is quite a quick way of removing the majority of dirt. If you feel the need after foaming you could a proper wash afterwards.

A set of plastic arch liners, to help keep the salt away from metal in the first place (well away from some of it at least!)

Surely taking off the paint with rust under it is good because -
1. The area can then dry out and slow the rusting and
2. You can now see see the rust and deal with it rather than letting it fester away out of sight!

There's absolutely nothing wrong with using a pressure washer on a Mini, so long as you only use it on the metal panels (the underside is the only pace you would actually need it). Obviously, you don't blast it in the bearings our the door shut lines.

I pressure wash the underside and wheel arches of my Mini weekly and it works brilliantly, you can watch all the muddy rubbish run off. WaxOyl the underside about twice a year and you'll see no problems, the only thing that is majorly affected by salt water are the chrome bits which I treat weekly.

PS. Don't use underseal, it's complete crap and just flakes off.
