my car is booked in for an MOT on Saturday, my mate was welding a hole in the corner of the boot floor behind the offside rear light, thats all fine. So i thought while i need to hammerrite it i would clean up and do the whole boot.

Hoovered out all of the cruddy loose C**p and some of the paint from the boot floor flaked off, turns out the more i kept going it turned into a hole. It is in the wheel well about 6 inches away from the fuel tank, it is definately not a drain hole its definately a rust hole about the same size as a £2 coin!!

Question is (i know this is probably make me sound well thick but) is this going to be an MOT fail or is it ok? My spare wheel well isnt looking to good at the moment and am worried that if we try to weld a patch on it we will end up cutting most of it away before finding some decent metal to weld to. HELP :'(

If it's within 12" of a subframe mount then it'll fail ;D

...if they notice. You could cut it round and put a rubber bung in it making it look like it's suposed to be there

i say lots of glue and some carpet would work. lol. not a good idea tho, if your mates welding some up get him to pop a plate in. tank the petrol tank out 1st but still do it.

well, you can chance your arm and make some sort of temporary repair (bond a patch on, or fibreglass) and try to "hide" it (although any MOT man worth his salt will know to look at a minis boot floor), or do the job properly. It shouldn't take *that long* to chop it out, fab a panel (or even get one) and weld it. even if it's not painted, the MOT man doesn't care!
