hi guys

as my engine is coming out to get the tranny replaced.

are there any maintenance work i should do while the engine is out ?

car has 140000kms, should i replace the timing chain ?

also is there a gasket set available for sale for tranny swap ? i assume i will need all new gaskets.

car is a 97 spi/mpi jap spec.

thanks

Could do timing chain, oil pump, maybe clutch? There is a engine gasket set, I think this has all the gearbox stuff like the half-moon seal etc.

I'd change hoses, water pump, engine mounts, fan belt.

Certainly think about oil pump and checking bearing shells for wear.

Maybe clean the engine bay.

Any job will be easier with engine out and you know your mini better than we do, just think ahead !

To be thorough and at those KMs it would be wise to do the following:

New main & big end shells

New crankshaft thrust bearings with end float set to 0.002" to 0.004"

New oil pump

New timing chain (and tensioner if fitted)

Re-lap valves and clean our head chambers and tracts

New water pump

Hone bores & fit new piston rings.

Thoroughly clean the inside of the engine including removing the oil gallery plugs and fitting new ones.
