Temp Insurance

Right, so I've bought myself another mini which I'm due to pick up on Saturday. Ideally what I'd like to do is add the car to my current policy but my insurers won't let me do that. Ok I thought, my current policy only runs to end of Jan so why don't I just insure the mini on a temporary policy until I can start a new one with both cars on a multiple car thingymabob.
So I get a quote through my current insurer (sky) who want over £100 for 28 days insurance... That seems steep for a 1.0 mini to me when considering I currently insure a modified r34 skyline for £620 fully comp...
Any suggestions guys? I'm 31 with 8 years NCB and 3 points from 2010.

Thanks, it does consume a lot of my disposable income (mostly in fuel) but she's worth it!

Managed to get a half decent quote from ecar but still extortionate. Think I'll just insure it for a day to get her home then wait till my annual policy is up and do a multi car quote.

Last time it was on the dyno it made 395bhp at the fly. Not the most powerful skyline around but plenty for just rear wheel drive. Especially this time of year.

Have you not tried classic insurance? At your age (im not trying to say your old ) it shouldnt be a problem to get a year for around £200 if not less!

It's just that you can only use NCB on one policy which will need to be the skyline, so I was only wanting to insure the mini short term because once the skyline policy is up for renewal end of Jan I'll put them both on a multi car and be done with it. Just so damm proportionately expensive to insure the mini for just a month.

Can't you ask your insurer if they can temporarily add your mini to your existing policy. Direct line did this for a month when I had to replace the engine in my astra. They just added my sister's punto to my insurance but both were insured. It cost me about £80 for 30 days.

It sounds like we have offered this option.
Another option would be to insure it on a new policy using mirrored NCB.

When I called sky I was told that it was not possible to simply add another car to my existing skyline policy??? Two options the lady @sky presented me were:Can't you ask your insurer if they can temporarily add your mini to your existing policy. Get 28 days temp cover at something like £130 or start a new policy, as you say, with mirrored NCB. Problem is the New Years policy from sky is £360 for the year. That still seems a bit steep for a 22year old 998cc mini when comparing it to the price of the skyline insurance.
I've been quoted at little as £186 from Churchills and that's with no car club discount and only a courtesy 4 years NCB rather than the 8years sky used... I can't understand the discrepancy here...
As I'd much rather have my vehicles insured in the one place it looks like Sky maybe losing my business come the Jan renewal and I'll be switching...
