hey guys.. so took the mini out and was driving around when suddenly it started jerking and spluttering like its about to die.. so i stopped and figured maybe fuel mixture was to lean so richened it but nothing happened.. when i free rev it theres no issues but when i put it in gear i can't get it past 2500 rpm and if its going uphill then its really bad.. im fighting to keep the engine alive..

its a 998 clubman with stage 1.. even if i drop the gears it makes no difference.. and the engine is making a pop pop pop sound almost like a misfire but not.. just running very rough.. any ideas guys?

thanks

possibly look at the condition of the HT leads and check whether the choke is stuck on

Timing? Not getting enough fuel? Ignition system worn?

the plugs gap just set and colour is brownish.. lead changed recently but maybe.. coil changed a year ago will swap the old one on and test.. the mixture is good.. we dont use chokes here in malaysia.. timing is very well too maybe off by 1 or 2 degrees max..

could it be the condensor in the distributor?

Vacuum won't have effect at that rpm.

Could well be condenser. Or centrifugal advance mechanism.
