When we picked up our mini 18 months ago the boot floor was in a right state, the mount holding the fuel tank was more rust than metal and as such I've had to make a new one. I thought Id fitted it back in the right place but can't for the life of me work out if the tank fits in front or behind, if behind someting is not right with wherecive welded it. I know its not the easiest area to photo, but does any one have any photos of the strap over the tank and bolted to the bracket.

would also be handy if some one could measure where the bracket is mounted.

thanks in advance

Stephen

I'll get a picture later if I can. I had a bit of confusion over this as well! The tank goes in front of the bracket though

When I repaired my boot floor I welded the bracket in the wrong place. As above the tank (flange) should sit in front of the bracket but mine sits behind, I had to modify the bracket. Need less to say I was savage when I come to fit the tank, should have tried it before painting

Not trying to fit the bolt through the hole in the tank are you?  That's what usually comes up when people ask this.  The hole in the tank flange is for aligning the halves in the jig it gets welded together on.  The strap just goes around the tank and holds it to the shell against the bracket, the bolt doesn't pass through the flange.

No id twigged that. I dont think my bracket is far off where it needs to be. If some one has a picture of the tank taken looking into the boot I should be able to work out if its in the right place.

Thanks

Thats great, I think my bracket is to far over to the right. One last question, is there any chance you take a picture from the rear looking straight into the boot. I just want to see how straight the tank flanges is to the edge of the boot opening.

thanks

Sure, its taken slightly offset as the boot strap gets right in the way if its dead straight:

Thats spot on. Ive taken my bracket out now and can see how much further the tank needed to go. Also the bracket I made is a little to large and was also sitting the wrong way round which also limited the tank access. Bit of re fabricating and welding tomorrow I think
