i have a su carb, on a 1983 austin mini

its dripping from the bottom, petrol, from the needle, (lifting pin)

"over fueling"

can anyone help?

will the whole Carburetor need to be changed ?

or is there a valve or something that might need changing?

its a big problem ?

as sometimes when i accelerate nothing happens, car jolts like and drags a bit forwards and moves of like normal but stil in 3th forth gear it only maintains the speed, doesn't really accelerate?

is this because not enough petrol is going through?

for example today the car just was driving fine, choke was pulled and then the car like seemed to die, kept dying and i kept starting and driving on, the car then died and wouldn't start, when i accelerated its like the car wheezz'ed and turned off. like no petrol's going through?

some help please!!

having too much engine problems and this is leading in me being forced to sell it!

really don't want to!

Dropping fuel from the bottom is a fire hazard. It could be the float chamber to jet delivery pipe is damged. This is a potential fire hazard. I would suggest a carb overhaul and a tune up to fix the problem.

The reason your engine has running problems is because it needs maintenance/servicing/tuning and parts repairing or replacing to make it work as it should. This will require a competent mechanic to diagnose and fix the problems.

Why did you use the choke if it was 'driving fine?'

the car has started up, just was lack of fuel, but iv been told its the float chamber valve

now this is the one i need, i know its the standard one but on that website there states (the needle and seat kit)

its give three different ones that you can buy spring loaded version of 0.070" - 0.096" and another one of just a 0.096 not stating its spring loaded

or an ebay link of http://cgi.ebay.co.u...atchlink:top:en

also its started to smoke on the engine bay, there was a leak from the rocker cover, changed the cover rocker gasket and its seem fine as before it was leaking by the front onto the plugs, but now after a week i just seen and its leaking from the back side from the rocker cover, theres a little gap from where its leaking from, and also there's smoke coming out underneath the manifolds, don't actually know or cant actually see where its coming from? any help with that?

As ac said really, it would be worth taking it to a competent mechanic that knows classic cars and even better if he knows minis, that would probably be the best bet

Alan at carb care is brilliant for this sort of thing. He really knows his stuff and is local. You wouldn't be disappointed.

Make sure you dont do what my dad did in 1994, inspect a dodgy carb with a candle because his inspection lamp went pop and l;ike all "Mini Dads", wanted to work in the dark at 3am, just to defy my long suffering mother.

Sadly he passed away a year later, but we had some fun listening to Dad swearing in the workshop

God bless you dad, wish you were still around to show me how to show me how it was done old school.
