Hi,

I was hoping for some pointers on an oil leak that seems to have developed.

It only occurs when the engine gets really hot, frequent problem in my current climate, and it seems to be coming from the back near the mechanical fuel pump. Initially I thought it was the fuel pump but it seems to be coming from somewhere higher than that.

I suspect it could be the timing cover gasket but I am not sure because it seems to be leaking from the top of it?

I would leave it, as it is only when the engine gets hot, but the oil drips onto the drive shaft and goes everywhere!

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Jack

If it's a 998cc engine (or a 1275 "S" block), the chances are it's coming from one of the inspection covers at the back of the block just below the exhaust manifold. If the block does not have these covers, I would check the rocker gasket and in both cases, check that your breather system isn't blocked.

I concur, but before you do any major work, just try nipping up the rocker cover and "tappet" cover bolts half a turn. Don't overdo it!

But changing all 3 gaskets, plus the seals on the bolts, will not take long anyway.
