Hi everyone, I know this is of no use to anyone, but I have this question or enigma that bugging me. On stripping my mini 30 down to its tub and rolling it on its side , I discovered 2 x porely tacked plates located just in of the rear wheel turret on both sides. I initially suspected an historical most repair. However the subby would have had to be removed. I thought as I,m doing various repairs I would remove tacks and repair properly. On starting to grind off tacks it became obvious that it had various spot welds prior to the tacks. I evevtually cleaned up and ran a seam weld around to make me feel better about it. , not that it was visable above subby . My questions are what was the purpose of this plate, what was it hiding,,why was it porely tacked. I've seen a picture of a shell on the net with the same porely fitted plates . I,m sure there is other members that have wondered this. I understand that a lot of people will have views on this, but only bmc/rover will know the answer. All views are welcomed.Terry.

It's a striker plate where there should have been a bit of felt between the subframe and boot floor.

This would have prevented any metal to metal contact between the subframe and floor creating noise etc. The felt made a lovely water trap as well so helping rust out in its continual quest to change our cars back to ferrous oxide.

Some folks leave the felt out and others use a thick piece of rubber to aid as a buffer between the floor and subbie. Other than that the plate serves no purpose at all.

I must admit my first thought was of an assembly line jig hole.
