Does anybody know if it is possible to buy the outer skin only for a mk1 saloon boot lid?

I seem to be able to find the whole assembly , just not the skin only. And ouch at the price of that!

If they aren't available, has any body got any good tips on repairing the lower skin area? Mines rather err crusty :-)

Can get a fibreglass single skin. I've got one of them bonded to the metal inner frame to give it some strength back

I've never worked with fibreglass before so would be a challenge.

I'm presuming the pros are lighter and rustproof, but are there any cons to a fibreglass skin?

Working with it is easy. Mine is glued using tiger seal and clamped down hard while it dried. Yeah it's lighter and doesn't rust. Only con I could think of is it's not that secure as a hard hit would probably brake it

Thanks bluemini

I think I may have to go this route unless anyone else knows if it is possible to buy just the steel skin??

Can't seem to find a skin only so have decided to give repairing it a bash.
Got a fair bit done today and it seems to be working out so I might not need one now

Would still be nice to have a new panel as a back up plan though :-)

You can buy a panel that converts mk3 onwards to a mk1 style, you should be able to use that.
