Without wanting to sound too silly, I'm possibly going to look at another car tomorrow. What online checks can I do to ensure it's not hiding anything? Is there somewhere I can see the list of recent MOT's and tax etc?

Cheers, Jack

You can see all the recent (computerised) MOTs on the DVLA website, but you need the logbook number to do that.

If you do a vehicle enquiry, you can see if it is taxed and you can check if it has an MOT. You can do both with just the reg number.

What you could do first off Jack is a check the dvla website, Its also free to do mate -

https://www.taxdisc....?execution=e1s2

You can also check on its previous MOT advisories etc but for this I think you need the MOT stations reference number situated on the last MOT certificate that was issued for the car ;-)

A mini is no different to any other car, I check every vehicle which i buy, even if it's a scrapper.

I have 3 checks left on a group I bought which expire on the 2nd January, so if you want a check done, just let me know the reg. No point in wasting them.

I had an RAC equivalent of the HPI done before buying mine.  You can get a general check off the reg to make sure its what it says it is and a full check for about £15.  Well worth doing if you ask me :)  I looked at buying one car before the one I got and the guy was funny about giving me the details to do a check first - put me off to the point I didn't but it in the end.

Do these show if a car has finance ?

I HPI'd my BINI before I bought it.....came up clean as a whistle....having started to do some upgrades and modifications it became very apparent it had had a back end shunt and a pretty major ( but high quality ) repair....

HPI only picks up data and information if its declared, If its not declared, which happens hell of a lot, you may be putting too much faith in a report that can be misleading....there is no substitute to thoroughly checking the car over yourself prior to purchase, or getting a professional to check it over.. if the seller wont agree to this, then maybe there is something they dont want you to know ??
