Took the cylinderhead of today (yay :D )

When I lifted the head of all the pushrods followed, Only 1 didn't come along.

I can't pull out any of the pushrods out of the cylinder head down the bottom of the cylinder head, except that one.

Is that one worn? Or is the head worn?

Should I replace the pushrod?

grtz!

can be bent or attached to the follower

998 or 1275?

And by the way you MUST remove the pushrods BEFORE lifting the head or you'll bent them straight away and loose the followers..

they will all pull out the head either up or dowh,,there just stuck with old crappy oil.

keep them in order as in where they came from,,they should be good to reuse as long as they are not bent,

use an old rag to grip them and pull them out, then its down to cleaning all parts spotless before reassemble

Ive had some that wont go down through the head, on some 1275's the head is either machined or sleeved smaller and its very close to the size of the head of the push rod.

That sounds similar to mine. 7 of the 8 will pull out of the bottom, but the one on the end doesn't, and you have to remove the rockers to get it out.

yeah, that sounds normal,

on small bores and cooper S's you should wiggle the pushrod as you lift it so you dislodge the cam follower and dont pull it out of its bore. on normal 1275's you can't pull them out.

If you do pull a follower out you'll need to take the plates off the back of the engine and slip it back into its bore.

oil over the years builds up,,sets like a varnish and reduces bore hole size it can be scraped if you can gain access,,

this is why its so important to remove oil galleries / chem clean pipe brushes ect on a full rebuild,

dont dismiss what the eye cant see,,the trouble is we all like a tight hole lol,,

I made the rookie mistake of forgetting about the followers completely. I proceeded to remove the camshaft without removing the followers and as a result 5 of them have fallen somewhere (I'm guessing in the gearbox) and I've got to get them out.

I guess you learn from your mistakes.

yep those 5 cam followers will be in the gearbox,

you'll be able to get them out by removing the speedo housing and tipping the engine on end... but you wont be able to get them back in their bores, you'll need to split the engine and box.
