What's the recommend psi for my tyres?
165/60 12r.
Unless I'm reading it wrong on the side it says psi 71
(or something can't remember exactly but it's high).
Surely that's far too much? :s

Cheers!

The optimum pressures will depend on several factors:

How do you use the car?

How do you drive it?

Which tyres do you have fitted?

For best road-holding in the dry the pressures will need to be slightly higher than for the wet.

With more open pattern tyres the pressures will be slightly lower

For wet or mud the pressures will be lower still.

If you set to around 30 psi you should find that a good compromise.

As Cooperman says there are lots of variables BUT 71 psi will always be too high! Tyres will withstand a lot of pressure such as when overinflated to seat them, but you wouldn't want it on the road at that pressure.

28 to 32 is what most use, depending on useage and tyre type.

For sustained high cruising speed on main roads in the dry and for hard cornering, 32 psi is good, whilst for 'around town' driving and driving in a more moderate way, then 28 psi would be good.

I find that the Falken tyres do like a bit more pressure than the Yokos.

71 is max pressure rating...

If tyres are falkens, set them at a minumum 31psi for road use, best setting 32-34, dont try to go below 31psi really..and dont try different pressures between axles.

For tarmac rallies I set 35/33 F/R on Falkens. When I use Dunlops SP Sports in the wet I use 30 psi all round.

Yoko A008's I set to 32 psi all round.

If you think about it, tyre size has little to do with the pressure requirements, for every extra sq in. contacting  the road, there's an equal bit added to the opposite side of the wheel. It's the weight the wheel's supporting that matters, that's just the same.

Cool, yea sorry forgot to say they are falkens. And for normal road use, no racing lol. Is there any need to go as high as 70+, wouldn't they burst? Lol.

No, they are fine up that pressure, but that is only used for when they fit them. They over inflate them to 'pop' them onto the rim.

I put 32 on the Mini, 28 on the Honda as the tyre temps rise as it is abused more

Is it normal to have higher pressure in the fronts compared the the rears.
