I was probing a rotted area in the sheetmetal panel below the windscreen lower panel.  I withdrew a mens undershirt from within the cavity between the two panels.  I can only assume it was left there during vehicle assembly and constitutes sabotage by the assembler.  This is the third such item I have found.

This is exactly the kind of sabotage and low quality you do find from BL in the '70s, but as above it's usually in slightly later cars. They didn't leave out fixings or parts that would be unsafe, they weren't negligent. If anything they put in too many bolts, often a few extra ones in the bottoms of doors and sills to rattle around, and things like you have found here. Or thinned down the paint so they could hide the quantity they were taking home to paint the bathroom, that kind of thing was common. But I haven't heard anything from anywhere about missing subframe fixings or similar.

Don't think I would like to paint my bathroom with cellulose paint.

Sidebar question:  The t-shirt picture shows that the garment came from Montgomery Ward.  Did that chain of stores make it to the U.K.?  They were primarily a mail-order business with some brick-and-mortar stores.  They went out of business in 2000.  I believe their name still exists as an online business but it is not really the same company.

I am curious about that too.  I still have my Fisher stereo that I bought from them over 30 years ago.

Maybe the previous owner of the car had some "unorthodox repair techniques"........

Never heard of 'em but I was wondering about the label. Looks like ribbed knitting some maybe thermal undies as it's a Canadian spec Mini?

Nope, not a thermal shirt.  It's a sleeveless style, know today as a "muscle shirt".

Might be an idea to google "Mini in porn films", or a better one to be sure you never do!

Is that the same as a "wife beater"?  I'm not familiar with the term muscle shirt.
