Over the past few months, I've had my hands under a number of J-Spec Mini's ranging in date of manufacture from late 80's to late 90's.  Every single one of them has had hi-lo's and coil springs.  Without exception.  The same hi-lo's and the same coils.  Zero notable difference.  I'm interested to know if anyone on the forum has any experience with the Japan Spec cars, and whether or not they came this way from the factory.  Maybe the locals here are just so in sync with each other that they all have the same taste, but that seems a stretch.  This is Japan, I get it, but a stretch nonetheless.  Any insight would be appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

Pete

No, hilo's and coil are all aftermarket....

All dry minis leave the factory with cones and trumpets, wherever they are made or sold.

I've never had a Jap mini go through my 'shop with anything other than standard Cone ad Trumpet suspension, so it looks like you've hit on a local craze to change to springs.

Fair enough.  Maybe it has something to do with the climate here tending to destroy anything made of rubber.  I appreciate the info.

Hello, I just purchased a 97 Jap Spec Mini, and it has Hi-Lo's fitted, but Dunlop cones.

Never heard of Rover fitting coil spring suspension to new minis, if they had even for japan spec models only, it would have been big news on the mini magazine scene.

My jap spec mini came with hilos, spax adjustables and Dunlop cones.
