My engine has it from memory its in the Haynes manual

Seems stupid, whats wrong with tapping out the block and putting a bolt in?

Bolt head should be at top, otherwise yes I think this is standard.

I thought it was odd that the bolt was no tapped into the block

The nut and bolt joining the block to the engine, it's the 2 big washers that makes me think it's been bodged

The nut and bolt joining the block to the engine, it's the 2 big washers that makes me think it's been bodged

Mine has a few nuts and bolts holding the gearbox to the engine, can't think why they didn't just tap the block and use a bolt.

I've had a few engines with this and have thought it was strange myself but hey it's a mini!!!!!

The holes are standard. There should be a special shouldered washer and a bolt with a larger washer underneath and a nut under that.

The bolt acts as a dowel, there is a separate dowel at the front of the engine but no room for a separate one at the rear. So the bolt acts as a dowel and a fixing together in one part. Some parts lists and drawings show it this way up, some the other way up. As long as the proper collared washer is fitted on the right side of it then it's doing its job.

The bolt is standard and goes through a locating dowel therefore no room to put a thread in the block.
