The bolt that holds the plate over the speedo output on the gearbox - does it normally have a washer?

A split washer is listed, but I can't see it being too critical as long as the screw doesn't bottom out in the hole.

Thank you, it is fairly critical as Dad put the bolt and bracket ontop of the block the other day, I nearly cried as I just saw it fall down the pushrod hole, straight down the follower hole (tappet covers off) we tried everything, tipping the engine upside down, I've got a magnet and torch on a telescopic stick, shakin the engine whilst upside down.

Even when we split the block and gearbox, it still took ages to find it as we later realised it was caught in the selector mechanism!

The bolt you have in you hand is for the fork on the speedo cable adapter. It is a flanged bolt so does not require a washer but should have a dab of loctite on it.

Yeah thats right, I wasn't sure if it would have a spring washer on it, the loctite will be in the sump somewhere
