On my way home from work last night the mini started to run very lump, took a quick video to best describe it to you all.

Ive got an idea of what the problem might be but i thought it best to get the opinion of the forum boffins before i start replacing and buying parts to fix it up!

Checked for water in the dizzy and sealed it all back up with a layer of grease also checked and can firm the the dashpot oil level is okay.

Cant think of anything significant happening to initiate the problem.

Hi 

has the car got some sort of free flow air filter on or did you have the air filter off ?

it sounds as though it is running on 3 and a bit cylinders

and spitting back in the carb

so my first guess is head gasket 

try compression test 

if that is OK 

it is in no order

plugs 

plug leads 

dissy cap

or very unlikely 

a tight tappet but that would show on the compression test

Ouch!

The heavy rattling and it sounding like its only running on 3 cylinders could point to head gasket failure, especially if it suddenly went like this.

A head gasket blowing between two cylinders can produce a noise akin to worn big end bearings or a very heavy pinking noise which is what your video sounds like.

A compression check will immediately show if this is the case....

That sounds like a bag of spanners....... Id check the valve clearances ( easy to do ) and then do a compression check. Also, ( if fitted ) check/change the points and condensor.
