Hello,

I my PTC heater is not activating with the ignition.  I have run all tests including the PTC relay circuit test from my Crypton which comes out OK. and the resistance at the heater is fine.  When I wire the heater directly it gets hot quick.

However, there is only 0.2v coming from the relay pack to the PTC live feed.

Rather than get a new relay pack I thought I would wire a switch into the dash so the PTC can be enabled and disabled manually, perhaps on a 2 minute timer.

So my question is, does the PTC heater take a full 12v or is it stepped down to around 8v or 6v?

Thanks

Are you measuring it when you turn the ignition on or when the engine is cold and running?
It takes the full battery voltage but due to the current it is only "on" when the temperature is low from the coolant temperature sensor and the engine is running it is inhibited during engine cranking too so as to provide full capacity to the starter circuit.

Thanks for that Flying Scot. I forgot the obvious.

The technical docs for the SPi suggest that there is a short current supply from the relay when the ignition is first activated and then it is turned off if the engine is not started. This was not happening.

I put the system back together this morning and, sure enough, once running the current begins to flow.

Better still, it has solved the problem. I can only assume the spade connection onto the PTC was not secure enough before. I've given edge connector a good clean and squeezed it a bit so it is more secure.

Thanks again for you help.
