Issue With Main Caps

Best Answer ACDodd , 12 January 2014 - 03:36 PM

Yes, remove the crank and torque the caps with the bearing shells fitted and investigate. If you can put a feeler blade under the main cap when torqued your build stops right here till you get it investigated.

I have just torqued my main caps down and the crank turns beautifully. However on the centre cap and one of the end caps they stand slightly proud when torqued up. I am sure it is due to the locating rings in the caps/block.

Everything is beautifully clean but something isn't right. Any suggestions?

Any suggestions as to what could be causing it AC? Is it worth removing the dowels to see if everything bolts up correctly as a process of elimination?

I will try that tomorrow evening then and let you know how it goes. If I go into the garage right now I am worried I will accidentally on purpose set it on fire. >_<

Thank you AC.

Took it all apart, cleaned it all scrupulously, removed the dowels, then cleaned where they sit, put it all back together again and it works beautifully.

I am a happy boy.

its also worth checking that the dowels are a decent fit in the block and caps,

If they are a bit loose, I recomend the ones swiftune do, they are thicker and better tolernced, and are only about 15 quid the set.
