I have a 15" piece of braided Petroflex I'd like to cut down to 6" has anyone tried and had success? I've been thinking I would tape off the area I want to cut and use a cut off wheel then reinstall the rubber end.

Yes. Your right to put tape were you want to cut. I used a angle grinder with a 1mm cutting disc, it made for a neat cut.

I do mine by taping and hack saw with a fine blade. Then I trim any stray strands with tin snips. But I might try the angle grinder method since I've got one to do this weekend :-)

I taped the end and used a sharp chisel and hammer, did all my lines the same way and they was very neat. Look on utube theirs a lot of step by step vids. Mine had the plastic inner by the way not the rubber type.

I used the tape and cutoff wheel method it worked perfect nice clean cut, it smelled horrid cutting through the rubber but the braid was perfect.

Whatever way you do it, definitely a tight wrap of tape. I prefer friction tape or electrical tape. For the smaller ones -3an or -4an -- 3/16-1/4" id), I've been using electrical cable cutters. They do slightly crush the hose, but are cleaner. For bigger, I gently clamp the hose in my vise. I've used a mix of cutoff wheel or fine toothed hacksaw. The cutiff wheel will have a tendency to slightly melt the rubber if it gets too hot. The hacksaw will leave more loose strands if the blade is too coarse or too dull.

Back in the days of my RAF training when we were taught how to make Aero Quip type connections and pipe lengths we used a bench mounted cutter which looked like a mini chop saw. This set up had a small clamp much like something you would use on a pillar drill and a very thin high speed cutting disc.

Pipe in clamp adjusted to length with tape wrapped around the cutting area. We used if memory serves me correctly electrical tape. Then a smooth even pressure was used with the cutter to sever the pipe. So a 1mm cutting disc should do the job nicely. Much better than a hacksaw although I use both methods when I need to. Tape is a must though otherwise you end up with a mess. Just do not crush the pipe if you put it in a vice.

As above tape and angle grinder with fine disc. Had to chop loads of this for my injection conversion. Be sure to blow the fine rubber swarf out the ends to prevent it clogging up carbs/injectors etc.
